A friend of mine pointed out this "rescue" to me. They claimed to have tax write-offs, etc.
Well, I checked with the IRS, and this "rescue" does not have 501(c)3 status in order to provide persons with tax deductions for being a non-profit organization.
Straight from Harmony Meadows' website:
"Harmony Meadows is a Nonprofit Organization working to help saving unwanted or abused horses."
"Any items or money donated to Harmony Meadows or for Harmony Meadows is a Tax Deduction. We do have forms that will be given to you."
I CAN, however, say that Harmony Meadows is incorporated with the State of Georgia AS a "non-profit" organization (in 2007). They have never received their 501(c)3 status though.
I can't find out any information about adoption on their website or from their director. They offer "fostering," but that's it. They have a handful of acres and over 20 horses. It appears overcrowded to me and does not look like land that should be a horse farm let alone a rescue: mud, steep hills, exposed roots, dried creek beds, half-finished bridges, etc.
*** Be careful when someone claims to be "non-profit." Check with the IRS first.

Chattanooga's Craigslist: SHOW WINNING 7yr Old Spotted Racking Stallion
http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/grd/1059532535.html

(links may or may not be disabled)
Beautiful Spotted Stallion. I have owned the horse for over 2 years. Its up to date on its wormer and has its coggins papers. It has won several local shows. Very gentle and very happy and healthy horse. He is stable kept always. Stables are very clean. He very eager to show again or he can also be trail ridden. He has successfully bread 3 mares and can be round pin turnout. You wont find a better or more beautiful stallion for this price. Come check us out. Call for more info or directions to the barn and show ring. Thats right, you can see him in action. Show ring on premises. You really have to see him to appreciate.

*** You'd think if you were trying to sell a horse that was a "SHOW WINNING...Stallion" that you'd at LEAST have one decent photo of him....instead of showing him in cross-ties...post bath(?)....in the dark. This screams to me "HIDING SOMETHING."
Atlanta's Craigslist: 12 Yr Old QH/TB Cross Breed Blue Roan Gelding
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/grd/1096846725.html

(links may or may not be disabled)
He is a non-registered cross between a Quarter Horse and a Thoroughbred. He is just under 16 hands he is 12 yrs old. He has a very sweet temperment towards people. When it comes to rideing he needs an experienced rider. He is used to being barn fed. I am asking 1000.00 OBO. He is current on his vaccinations and coggins. His has new shoes on his front feet. He does good on trails and loads well.

*** With the market the way it is today, you'd be lucky to GIVE this horse away. Showing the rider fighting the horse, a horse who is throwing its head while the rider has no stirrups.....isn't wise marketing.

Never a dull moment.
If you're an animal lover or if you've been in a particular "animal" world - aka "dog world" or "horses," etc. then you KNOW there are crazies out there.
I started this blog just so you can see them.
